Maureen Mills - Kindergarten

I was raised in Clarkston by my family with definite influence by Holy Family Parish and School. My birthplace was Hanford, California. At the age of 2, my parents packed my two older brothers and I up to move to Clarkston, WA. By the age of 3 our family was living in the house that my 3 brothers, 2 sisters and I grew up in. I attended Holy Family School from Kindergarten through sixth grade. I absolutely loved school! I went on to graduate from Lincoln Middle School in 1989 and from Clarkston High School in 1993. I was involved in Drill Team and Cheerleading.
My move to Portland, Oregon in 1997 had an enormous impact on my life as it is today. In Portland, I worked at Tony Roma’s Restaurant while attending Portland State University. My studies mostly focused on gaining an Educational Certificate however, I’ve always been interested in learning about almost any topic. I met some of my closest and dearest friends through these experiences. Most significantly, I met my most amazing husband, Pat. We began our relationship so romantically over ribs at Tony Romas!
In May 2001, I graduated from PSU in Special Education and Elementary Education. That summer Pat and I were married. I moved over to his side of town. Ooo, scary NE Portland! My first position was half time in a Middle School where I taught 2 math classes and was responsible for testing students. This was a temporary position so the following year I sought and accepted a position as a Teacher for students with social and behavior issues at a Mental Health Agency. This was a tremendous learning experience that I draw from regularly. I began applying more of the strategies I had learned about and gained so much insight into children that struggle. This agency discontinued the school program so I again was out job seeking. I accepted a position as a Teacher for students with significantly disabling conditions in Reynolds School District. This was a busy year! However, it was extremely rewarding building rapport, seeing student gains and watching their eyes light up with pride and good humor!
Then, one night as we are enjoying a jazz musician, Pat surprisingly suggests that we move to the Valley. We moved to the area the summer of 2005. We are thrilled to be here with family and friends! I began working in Lewiston School District in fall of 2005. My passion to teach and work with children continued to be a fundamental part of who I am. My goal has always been to teach with compassion while encouraging children to reach their potential.
On March 11, 2007 our lives were forever blessed by the adoption of our daughter, Gabriella. Now, we cannot imagine a day without her presence.
When I was offered the Kindergarten position at Holy Family I knew it was a chance of a lifetime. I am completely honored that parents will trust me with the spiritual guidance and learning of their children as they just begin their journey into the world of education. I look forward to each and every student that walks into our classroom doors! I thank you for the warm reception I have already received! It is amazing to return to a place full of such fond memories and know there are more to come.
